As we settle into autumn and the winter season is but a northerly wind away.  Our ancient ancestors lived more intimately with the earth’s inhabitants then we do today but the psychological warmth offered by animal fur is coded in our DNA.  With central heating and insulated buildings we no longer need fur for warmth, but oh how we love adding touches of realistic looking, but ethically conscious, faux fur to our rooms.

While poking around on 1stDibs and The Skirted Table recently we discovered some beautiful examples to inspire your use of our luxurious animal print fabrics. Antique dealer Linda Horn’s fabulous giltwood stools covered in Scalamandre’s Le Tigre immediately caught our attention, as did Mario Buatta’s use of leopard print on the over-sized stool in front of the fireplace.

The faux animal skin throws of Pierre Frey are a perennial favorite and one of the more casual ways to combine the look of animal prints and faux fur is for your cabin in the woods decor.  Whether your interiors are entirely neutral or lush with pattern and color the addition of a Pierre Frey faux fur (at HUGE savings!) throw or an occasional chair or gilt stools in animal print always looks right. Why not wrap someone you love up in one for holiday gifting? – you know they will love it!

At iLuvFabrix we always have a wide selection of exquisite designer animal prints and luxurious faux fur to add color and texture to your interiors.

A friend having recently applied for a position there, we have been thinking about Scandinavian design and how Danish Modern and Gustavian periods always feel so fresh. Scandinavian design is about beating the mere five hours of sunlight during the winter. Their design aesthetic permeates our sub-consciousness, even when it’s only the pillows, lap rug or sofa colour that we ‘notice’. We are drawn to sink into creamy white rooms with bits of colour, or pastel rooms of blue, pink, yellow and greens with lots of white – the eye candy, the royal frosting flowers, the nonpareils, the sprinkles on top. Everything ‘goes with’ white, right? And to the interior designer or DIY home decorator nothing makes the room more livable than sumptuously thick velvet dressing a chaise, a favourite chair, the perfect tufted ottoman or an oversized Aiken style sofa.

So much of living well is about creating a refuge from the world for ourselves and our guests. However different the images of these rooms might be, each speaks a whispered invitation to be comfortable and to swoon just a little over the mere idea of occupying such a piece of furniture in such a room. A book, a mug of fine loose leaf tea, the gloaming coming on and soft lights making the colours all the more jewel-like iLuvFabrix makes sourcing these gorgeous fabrics not only easy but infinitely affordable.

Grand Fabric, Le Tigre from Scalamandre

As most of you know by now, specializes in selling the “Best of the Best” fabric for upholstery, drapery, bedding, slipcovers and many other projects to beautify your home.

Our niche is that we are able to acquire upholstery fabric which sells from $20.00 per yard to upholstery fabric that costs $2,000.00 per yard, but we are able to get everything at prices way below wholesale.  In fact our upholstery fabric is always cheaper for a decorator to buy from us than to buy from their own fabric mill representative.

We sell a lot of upholstery fabric and drapery fabric to designer/decorators as well as educated end users who know what a great, below wholesale price is when they see it.

One of the fabrics which we have sold quite a lot of over the past five years is Scalamandre Le Tigre Silk Velvet, which is one of the MOST gorgeous fabrics you have ever laid eyes on or touched, woven in a Tiger pattern and has been used in some of the most prestigious homes, High End Museums, Palaces and such around the world.  It is a VERY expensive fabric to purchase even through the best connected designer/decorator, but our price for this wonderful upholstery fabric is cheaper than the best price one can get from the above mentioned individuals no matter how good your negotiating skills.

We have sold hundreds of yards of this magnificent upholstery fabric over the past five years, as well as a few other upholstery fabrics the same category as Le Tigre.

For your reference, we have included a picture of the magnificent Le Tigre used to cover a chair in a high end home.  Enjoy the picture, below.

Upholstery Fabric versus Apparel Fabric

Even though is a website devoted to the sale of upholstery fabric rather than fabric used in the creation of apparel, and more so it is not a company with a brick and mortar storefront, you would be surprised at the number of people who just come in looking for apparel fabric.

As most of you know, has been around a long time selling upholstery fabric online, and only online. We do not have a sign outside inviting people in to visit our showroom, people come in the hopes of finding what they are looking for.

We explain that upholstery fabric is ALL we sell and they explain that they want to make a dress or some such item, most people still insist on walking through our warehouse to check it out for themselves.

When they enter our warehouse they see row upon row upon row stacked to the ceiling with upholstery fabric. And I guess I should be more understanding of their motivations because it only takes them a few minutes to discover the incredible differences between upholstery fabric and fabric for other purposes.

We sell the “best of the best” upholstery fabric which we source from fabric mills from around the world, and one look, one touch of the type of fabric we sell and it becomes crystal clear the differences between true upholstery fabric and everything else.

Our upholstery fabric is much, much heavier, more tightly woven, more durable and would never in a million years be mistaken for the types of fabric used for clothing.

Unfortunately there are some sellers on the web who offer much lighter weight fabric, usually made in the Orient, and pass it off as upholstery fabric. It is these sorts of vendors which give the honest vendors a bad name.

Luckily we have thousands upon thousands of people who have purchased the Real McCoy from us, i.e., true upholstery fabric that will wear like iron, who can attest to the quality of the fabric we well.

Be careful whom you buy from.

All the Best,
